About the Artist

Rob Atkinson came via Durham, Down and Donegal to Waterford. Coming from a background in North Yorks as coordinator of an educational training project, he began as a full-time artist in 1989 in Northern Ireland and then moved to Donegal where he and his wife ran the Killaghtee Gallery, an independent gallery with Bed & Breakfast, a museum and a tearoom- for nine years. An Irish citizen by marriage, he now works in a small studio at the foothills of the Comeragh mountains in mid Waterford where they moved in 2003.

The Comeraghs and local area are his main preoccupation and source of subjects nowadays.Subjects range from landscapes to abstracts based on life and experiences here. The Knockmealdowns and the Galtees sometimes feature.

He has sold paintings to many places around the world: mainly in America, plus Canada, U.K. and Ireland, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy. Also Australia and New Zealand. There are private collections of Robin Atkinson`s work in Dublin, Belfast, Florida, and Britain.
